How Do I Get a Title for a Trailer:

As of January 1, 2010, all trailers must have a title in order to be registered. This includes small trailers weighing less than 1000 pounds and homemade trailers. To get a trailer titled in your name, you will need the following:

  • A properly signed title with all signatures notarized, if required
  • If you purchased the trailer out of a state that does not require them to be titled, you will need a bill of sale properly completed, a vehicle identification number inspection, and an Affidavit of Ownership (completed by the seller).
  • If you purchased a trailer that was not previously required to be title (prior to January 1, 2010), you will need a bill of sale properly completed, a vehicle identification number inspection, and a copy of their past registration, or an Affidavit of Ownership (completed by the seller).
